Time passes and people as well as things change… that’s inevitable. How we handle that change makes all the difference in our own lives. Life happens, whether we aren’t prepared for it or are too busy making concrete plans of what needs to happen and exactly when it must occur. We tend to forget the true value in what we have, the precious blessings that we’ve already experienced and can appreciate in the present moment. There is this notion that what’s to come is better than what has been, but there are some things that will always be the best as it was.
Right in this moment, can you think of a loved one that you’ve lost? This beloved individual now exists only as a fond memory. Can you picture that loved one’s smile or hear the voice and laughter that still brings you comfort to this very day? It is in a moment such as this, we can remember the best of times shared with this person precisely as it was. As we grow older, there is a sense of peace that can be brought to us in moments of turmoil with the simple reminder of something or someone just as it was.
There is always a beautiful opportunity for the present and the future to be blissful. There are people that we will meet along the way that will love us in ways we’ve never thought were even possible. There are places that will be visited and events that will occur that will enrich lives and feed souls. The future is bright, exciting, and can be filled with endless possibilities, but there are also glimpses of the past that will forever bring us joy, solace, gratitude, etc. that must never be forgotten.
Life shows us the beauty of polarity. Without the bad, we cannot appreciate the good. Without grave sadness, we cannot understand pure happiness when we encounter it. Without the rain, we cannot embrace the splendor of a sun when it shines. Without the chaos, we cannot welcome the calm when it arrives. As we move forward on our life’s journey, what was contributes to what is, what will be and who we will become. We may not be able to replicate something or replace someone, but nothing and no one will ever be able to take away our memories with them simply as it was.
